About me
Between research
and public life.
I am Luis Felipe Munguía Corella. I studied Economics at the Universidad de Sonora, earned a master’s degree in Economics at El Colegio de México and a PhD in Economics at the University of California, Irvine.
My research focuses on labor markets, the minimum wage, poverty, inequality and discrimination. I am interested in understanding how these relationships work and how they can inform public policy decisions.
Career
I have worked as an external consultant for the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, as an economist in Banco de México’s Foreign Trade Office, and as Deputy Director of Foreign Trade Statistics at the Ministry of Economy. I have also conducted research at Tulane University and the University of California.
In 2018 I joined the National Minimum Wage Commission (CONASAMI) as Technical Director and, in 2020, became its President. I have participated in the design and evaluation of labor policies, as well as work related to minimum wage recovery.
Between 2020 and 2024 I worked on subcontracting, Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro and the Labor Reform. In 2024 I also contributed to work related to pension reform and the Fondo de Pensiones para el Bienestar. That year I was confirmed as President of CONASAMI.
On this site I share my columns, research and public policy publications.
